LADIVA RUAN
Project Concept
This project is a collation projects with biology master student. The goal is to explain science in a simple and graphic way. It is for helping learn science in a visual and effective way. The project uses a monster octopus to explain the white band disease that affects corals in all the oceans. It explains how the microorganism works; and how they affect the world when they spread. Each page explains a simple biological theory in order to understand the whole complex processes. The breaking down processes help the viewers to understand and be interested about science. The goal is for scientists to explain complex ideas in a simple way, and for audiences at any educational level to learn about science.
Project 1: White Band Disease
This project is to educate the knowledge of white band disease and its transmit ways.
Poster
The poster is a info-graphic Project. it is about how to manage and arrange information effectively by using graphic information with minimum words. This graphic information was crated based on a research which is to compare the bacteria that efforts the coral both under the ocean and in fish tanks. Additionally, it also includes the cause of the white band disease. I also made a painting for creating a painting to illustrate the environment with health and unhealthy corals.
Project 2: Ocean Monster
This projects is an extension of the first project. It is an experiment to test coral disease with different water conditions. It is not only a science project, it also created with art touch.
Inspiration
The inspiration comes from deep sea creatures, they all have bright colors and fluorescent glow naturally. Their shapes are either round, pointy or with tentacles.
Drawing & Plans
Besides the comic style of drawing I made, the structures are also the big challenge of this project. It includes all the water systems which connects three level - from the bottom floor to the top level then to the middle level and back to the bottom level.

Websits
The website of this project are animated. The master will swimming to the front and all the creatures and bubble are alive as well. Once the website scroll down to the cause of the bacteria, each steps will appear in its turns.
Monster in Action
The Monster of Ocean Beach attended the science conference that hold on University of California San Diego.
